Don’t Cancel Your American Express Credit Card

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

An indispensable part of today’s life is a credit card. It’s no joke trying to order tickets for the theater without your American Express card, if like me you have canceled it. Just ordering some clothes over the internet wasn’t possible and how basic is that in today’s world. I remember when using cash was the preferred way to buy things.

It’s all very well using your Mastercard, Visa or American Express Card anywhere in the world but it is often for things you don’t actually need and with money you do not have. You cannot escape though, as the price is high when using your American Express credit card and buy it now, pay tomorrow philosophy. Unfortunately, credit card debts are mounting in many places around the world. In America it is true to say that credit card debt is probably one of the biggest problems facing us.

I couldn’t think of any other alternative but to get rid of my American Express credit card. I found it too easy using my card and spending money that wasn’t mine to spend. I would charge everything and anything on it, and soon the costs would spiral out of control. Panic kicked in when I found I could no longer pay the debt.

The debt refinancing service I turned to were my best hope and I managed to get the debt repayment under control. It’s not something I ever want to repeat. Now, I have gotten my debt paid off and canceled my American Express credit card. Most of you reading this will probably think it’s not the fault of the credit card but you need to understand something fundamental about human psychology.

When you have to pay for everything with cash, you are so much more conscious of how much it costs. The credit card just made it so easy; you don’t even look at the cost. Just handing the card over time and time again, it is almost addictive. So remember, if you don’t have an American Express card, you don’t have any worries.
