How long to build credit up after cancelling credit card?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

nmommy07 asked:

I am thinking of getting a particular credit card to use on a purchase due to the fact it offers money off the purchase. I know this isn’t a great idea, so I’m still thinking about it, but my concern is with my credit. My credit is fairly good right now and I’m wondering if I get the card and cancel it shorty after, how long does it take to build the credit I lost from getting & cancelling the card, back to normal? If it’s just a few points, does that take weeks/months? Thanks.

Is a credit card number really valid for a deposit on a service?

JNate asked:

I own a small business which often takes credit card numbers over the phone as a deposit. We recently had a customer no show, and she contested through her credit card company when we charged her (she claims it wasn’t explained when she gave us her #). The credit card company took her side and said it is policy to allow anyone contesting to get their money back if there is no signature. How can this be? So many hotels and services take card #’s as deposits!

I am very responsible with how I spend money, so please don’t lecture me on how credit cards are so dangerous. I’ve waited til I felt financially secure enough to get one.

I just want one so I can work on establishing credit. I want to make one or two monthly purchases and pay them off so I can have some credit. I just want to know what kind of card should I look into getting.

I know I want a card with low-intrest rates(who doesn’t) and no annual fees. I am also a college student. If you can give me any information on a card you think I should look into, please let me know. thanks a bunch.

I recently turned 18 and im in a great living situation. i live with my dad, make about 1000 a month and im a musician. I wanted to buy a new bass and amp, but more importantly need to start my credit. I already have the money to buy the bass today, but i wanna see if i can start my credit with this purchase. The stores i went to say i need at least a 700 score to apply for their credit.
Is there any credit i can apply for, without having to pay financing and apr and so on without having credit to begin with. My plan is to buy the bass with credit, pay it off right away, and probably cancel the card right after.

Don’t Cancel Your American Express Credit Card

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

An indispensable part of today’s life is a credit card. It’s no joke trying to order tickets for the theater without your American Express card, if like me you have canceled it. Just ordering some clothes over the internet wasn’t possible and how basic is that in today’s world. I remember when using cash was the preferred way to buy things.

It’s all very well using your Mastercard, Visa or American Express Card anywhere in the world but it is often for things you don’t actually need and with money you do not have. You cannot escape though, as the price is high when using your American Express credit card and buy it now, pay tomorrow philosophy. (more…)
